On the Horizon: Scotland, the Sea, and the Northern World – SSNS Conference

The Society is set to host its annual conference on Saturday 21 November. The event will take place virtually this year, using Zoom. Full programme and registration now available.

Consisting of four papers and a brief panel discussion, this virtual conference will highlight current cross-disciplinary research on the northern world and its wide-ranging connections.

The Hermann Pálsson Memorial Lecture, on ‘Weather as Magic and Metaphor in the Sagas of Icelanders’, will be delivered by Prof. Astrid E.J. Ogilvie (Stefansson Arctic Institute, Akureyri / UC Boulder), and speakers also include Dr Lizanne Henderson (University of Glasgow), Dr Matthew L. McDowell (University of Edinburgh), and Dr Patrick Jolicoeur (University of Toronto).
